French Side Dishes

Try one of these French side dishes to quickly add a little French flavor to your next meal. All of them are simple and all of them are good.

Aligot - Cheesy Mashed Potatoes
Tomme cheese is beaten into mashed potatoes along with cream and garlic to create this sensational side dish that comes to you from the Auvergne region of France.

Ratatouille Recipe - Ratatouille is a great dish to make when summer vegetables are at their peak. This recipe features bell peppers, tomatoes, eggplant, zucchini and onions all slowly cooked and flavored with fresh herbs and pepper. Serve it hot or cold, with an omelet, alongside grilled fish or as a topper for pasta.

Scalloped Potatoes Recipe - Who doesn't like scalloped potatoes? The French version of this, known as gratin dauphinois, features thinly sliced potatoes cooked in garlic infused cream and topped with gruyère cheese. A hearty dish all by itself, scalloped potatoes goes well with all sorts of simply prepared meats.

Turnip Recipe - The turnip is almost as overlooked as celery root these days, but that doesn't mean you have to miss out. Try this easy way of fixing them with just a hint of sugar. Glazed turnips are a classic French side dish when served alongside duck confit.
