Celery root puree is like mashed potatoes, just ten times better. This is one of those French side dishes that goes great with rich meats.

Chestnut Dressing - The only thing better then roasted chestnuts is roasted chestnuts and Toulouse sausage. Try stuffing your holiday bird or just an everyday chicken with this superb combination. Or you can just bake it in the oven by itself and serve with anything you wish.

Hot Potato Salad - This is a hearty salad recipe from the Champagne region of France. Arugula, or another favorite green of yours, adds a mineral bite to hot potatoes mixed with bacon and champagne vinegar. This, like most French side dishes, goes well with many things, including a plate of boudin sausage.

Red Cabbage Recipe - Red cabbage slowly braised in red wine vinegar with just a sprinkle of sugar. The result is a lovely balance of sweet, sour, and salty tastes in a super healthy recipe. This is one of those French sides dishes I just can't get enough ot.

Ratatouille Recipe - Ratatouille is a great dish to make when summer vegetables are at their peak. This recipe features bell peppers, tomatoes, eggplant, zucchini and onions all slowly cooked and flavored with fresh herbs and pepper. Serve it hot or cold, with an omelet, alongside grilled fish or as a topper for pasta.

Scalloped Potatoes Recipe - Who doesn't like scalloped potatoes? The French version of this, known as gratin dauphinois, features thinly sliced potatoes cooked in garlic infused cream and topped with gruyère cheese. A hearty dish all by itself, scalloped potatoes goes well with all sorts of simply prepared meats.

Turnip Recipe - The turnip is almost as overlooked as celery root these days, but that doesn't mean you have to miss out. Try this easy way of fixing them with just a hint of sugar. Glazed turnips are a classic French side dish when served alongside duck confit.
